Make it sew

Program the longarm and make it sew!

I feel like Captain Picard - make it sew!  I spent yesterday at Quilters Garden, I rented one of their computerized longarms to continue to accomplish my goal of competing some of my tops before I start another project. I got two done! Edge to edge designs on both of them. These machines are great and they have so many different pantograph patterns to choose from. For the Amish quilt I chose a pattern called "Geometric Swirl". I wanted something kind of square yet with some curve. I had a hard time deciding what color thread as the quilt has every color of the rainbow - I chose red - worried the red would pull away from the piecing - I think I made a great choice, and I love it. I think all tops look better quilted.

I also got my Aiming For Accuracy, the Michele Foster Quilt-A-Long - pink and brown top quilted. I chose a pantograph pattern called "Posies" and pink variegated thread. I love it too.                                                    Using this computerized longarm, I feel like I am cheating but on the other hand, I did quilt these quilts, I did not send them out. I had a great time too. I have tried quilting on my regular sewing machine but it is backbreaking work, rolling the quilt up to get it within the machine, pushing, pulling and in general sweating though the entire process.
Now I have a lot of binding to do. We are headed to Yosemite and the 5 hour drive each way seems like a natural time to hand sew the bindings on these quilts. I really am happy I have stuck with my goals and have been finishing my projects.

Hay, thanks for stopping by!

Bird Bag

Thinking about my special walking birder friend Carol - she gave be a great bird book for my birthday so I thought I would make a little bag for her as a thank you. The bag is 6"x9" made completely from my stash. It is suppose to be a little male finch. Hope she enjoys it.

Pinwheels

This weekend I wanted to catch up on blocks for the Reily Blake Birthday Quilt. I did all the pinwheels and now I am current. I love this quilt as it is so stash friendly. I have not bought any fabric for it so far and I do not see any purchases in the future. This a fun quilt and a future present too.

Mixing it Up - Quiet Play Mixer

May's Block of the Month
from
Quiet Play  - Sew Kitschy Quilt
Don't forget to look at her Flicker Group

Here are all my blocks so far.

I told myself I really need to finish some of my UFO's. I did finish 2. I gave my new great niece her quilt yesterday... Oh I forgot to take a photo! I will ask her mom to send me one with little Leah on it and post it when I get it.
I have figured out  that I am just not a finisher -  While trying to finish projects I just lost my mojo... and so many days have been going by with no progress what so ever - so I am gong to go back to my proven sewing addiction - just keep sewing and worry about finishing - WHENEVER.

Meeting Bonnie Hunter

Meeting Bonnie Hunter

I have been feverishly trying to finish my
CelticSolstice quilt as Bonnie Hunter was to be visiting California and the La Habra Quilt Guild Tuesday and a show and tell with her presence would just top off the whole thing.
I rented a longarm at Quilters Garden last week and started the binding Monday night and finished it in the parking lot of the church the guild meeting was held. Talk about a last minute thing.
When I got up to the show and tell I asked Bonnie for a photo and being the kind person she is - well here it is! What a thrill!
Bonnie's program was wonderful, she is such an inspiration and if I could only begin to organize my scraps like she does - that would really help out a lot.

Celtic Solstice Piecing Finish!

I want to start another quilt but I told myself no!

Finish some first then move on.

I finished piecing and all the boarders of Celtic Solstice this weekend. I changed the direction of the second boarder to more of a prairie point look instead of flying geese. I like it better I need to schedule time at the long arm to quilt her up.

I have been waiting for the next block for the Birthday Quilt. ... Still not available.
The Riley Blake Birthday Quilt - candles have always bugged me - I put the blocks together as directed and I was ok with it, then I looked at the mock up drawing of the quilt on their button and I noticed the candles were tapered at the top instead of straight across. I thought and thought about it and it seemed I just wanted tapered tops, so I tore them apart and tapered them. See the photo above, the first block is straight and the second block is tapered. I think will have to embroider a wick on them when the sashing goes on.
